Description
A classic Boston cream cake recipe that combines layers of fluffy vanilla cake, rich chocolate ganache, and creamy custard filling.

- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
- ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup milk
- 3 large eggs
- 2 ½ teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1 cup vanilla custard
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until fluffy.
- Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
- Stir in the vanilla extract.
- In another bowl, combine flour and baking powder.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, alternating with milk.
- Pour batter into two greased 9-inch round cake pans.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Let the cakes cool completely on a wire rack.
- Meanwhile, heat the heavy cream in a saucepan until it just begins to simmer.
- Remove from heat and add chocolate chips, stirring until smooth.
- Once the cakes are cool, spread a layer of custard on top of one cake layer.
- Place the second cake layer on top, then pour the chocolate ganache over the top.
- Let it set for a few minutes before serving.
Notes
- You can use almond milk for a dairy-free version.
- Try using a gluten-free flour blend for a gluten-free cake.
- For a richer flavor, add a tablespoon of coffee to the ganache.
