  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 onions, sliced
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 cup red wine (or additional broth for non-alcoholic)
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 300°F (150°C).
  2. Heat olive oil in a large oven-safe pot over medium heat.
  3. Add sliced onions and cook until soft.
  4. Add minced garlic and cook for an additional minute.
  5. Season the brisket with salt, pepper, and paprika.
  6. Brown the brisket in the pot on all sides.
  7. Remove brisket and set aside.
  8. Pour in beef broth and red wine, scraping up any brown bits from the bottom.
  9. Add brown sugar and soy sauce, stirring to combine.
  10. Return the brisket to the pot, cover, and place in the oven.
  11. Cook for 3-4 hours, until tender.
  12. Let the brisket rest for 15 minutes before slicing.
