Description

Ingredients

  • 1 whole chicken (about 4 pounds)
  • 8 cups of water
  • 2 carrots, chopped
  • 2 celery stalks, chopped
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 3 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon of salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon of black pepper
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 1 teaspoon of dried thyme
  • 1 cup of noodles (optional)

Instructions

  1. Place the whole chicken in a large pot.
  2. Add water, carrots, celery, onion, garlic, salt, pepper, bay leaves, and thyme.
  3. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat.
  4. Reduce heat and let simmer for about 1 hour, or until chicken is cooked through.
  5. Remove the chicken and let it cool slightly.
  6. Shred the chicken into bite-sized pieces, discarding the bones and skin.
  7. If using noodles, add them to the pot and cook according to package instructions.
  8. Return shredded chicken to the pot and stir well.
  9. Adjust seasoning if necessary and serve warm.
