  • 1 large egg (for egg wash)
  • Coarse sea salt (for sprinkling)
  • Optional: melted chocolate or icing for drizzling

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. Add flour and salt to the yeast mixture. Stir until a dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it, and let it rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  5. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
  6. Divide the dough into equal pieces and shape them into pretzels.
  7. In a large pot, bring water to a boil and add baking soda.
  8. Carefully drop each pretzel into the boiling water for about 30 seconds, then remove and place on a baking sheet.
  9. Brush each pretzel with beaten egg and sprinkle with coarse salt.
  10. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.
  11. Let them cool slightly before serving. Drizzle with melted chocolate or icing if desired.
