- 1 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 6 to 8 tablespoons ice water
- 4 cups fruit filling (like apple, berry, or cherry)
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a large bowl, mix the flour, sugar, and salt.
- Add the cold butter and mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Stir in ice water, a tablespoon at a time, until the dough holds together.
- Divide dough in half, shape into discs, and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
- In another bowl, combine fruit filling with lemon juice and cornstarch.
- Roll out one dough disc on a floured surface and place it in a pie dish.
- Pour the fruit filling into the crust.
- Roll out the second dough disc and place it over the filling. Seal the edges.
- Make a few slits on top to allow steam to escape.
- Bake for 45-50 minutes or until the crust is golden brown.
- Let cool before serving.
Notes
- For a gluten-free option, substitute flour with a gluten-free flour blend.
- You can use frozen fruit if fresh is not available.
- Adjust sugar based on the sweetness of the fruit.
