Ingredients

- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup corn syrup
- 1/2 cup water
- 1/2 teaspoon peppermint extract
- 1/4 teaspoon red food coloring
- 1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
Instructions
- In a saucepan, combine sugar, corn syrup, and water.
- Cook over medium heat, stirring until sugar dissolves.
- Increase heat and bring to a boil without stirring. Cook until mixture reaches 250°F on a candy thermometer.
- Remove from heat and stir in peppermint extract and cream of tartar.
- Let cool for a few minutes, then pour mixture onto a greased countertop.
- Once it’s cool enough to handle, knead in the food coloring.
- Shape the mixture into small balls and flatten them into discs.
- Allow to harden for several hours.
